Volunteering
Many volunteers assist as Docents, providing tours of the gardens for visitors. Others help in the Gardens, the Gift Shop, or the office. Many special projects also benefit from volunteer assistance.
Gardens: Various wood and bamboo substructures such as the bridges, the wooden lamp posts around the pond, the well, the main gate, and the fences that lead up to the gardens have all been restored with the help of volunteers like Bruce Heister and Jim Sugai.
Docents: Current vounteer docents include John Tauchi, Don Morgan, Michiko Kelly, Deborah Lecover, June Kanazawa, Mike Story, and Peter Marra.
Cultural programs: Kathy Toy, John Larissou, Marty Matsuo, John Tauchi, Elaine Salter, Micky Shimabe, Joanne Berube and many others.

Committees
Many dedicated members of the Hakone Community contribute by being involved in one of our committees. The volunteer efforts for the many art, cultural, and garden programs and personal enrichment courses that are offered by Hakone have boosted the number and quality of programs we are able to offer.
